Karela Fry (Bitter Gourd Fry)

 

Gather all ingredients together first:  2 minutes

Pre-cut all vegetables:  2 minutes

Cooking time:  10 minutes

 
Ingredients:
 

Onion 1
Bitter gourd 2 o 3 
Tomato 1
Channa dal (Yellow gram) ½ tsp
Oil 2 tbsp
Ginger and garlic paste ¼ tsp
Garam masala powder ¼ tsp
Black pepper powder ¼ tsp
Red chillies powder ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Cumin Seeds ½ tsp
Coriander seeds powder(Dhania) ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
 

Recipe:
 
  • Slice bitter gourds (de-seed if you wish).
  • Finely chop onions and slice tomato.
  • Heat the frying pan and add 2 tbsp of oil.
  • Add cumin seeds and once it begins to sizzle, add channa dal (yellow gram).  Leave it for a few seconds till it turns to be a little brown and then add onions and fry till it is golden brown.
  • Add ginger and garlic paste and stir it for a few seconds.
  • Add red chillies powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala and black pepper powder.
  • Stir it for a minute.
  • Add in tomato slices, sprinkle salt to taste and fry it again till it melts.
  • Add sliced bitter gourd and cook it for 8-9 minutes. Serve hot.
